The Northford News.com

Dear Readers,

This week is proof of why a site like this, known as an aggregator to computer nerds, is just as important as any one of the major news providers. The simple fact, shown by the Michael Jackson death coverage, is that entertainment and celebrity news generates profit at the expense of keeping the voter informed.

The media swing from Protests in Iran to the Passing of the King of Pop is a perfect example of how quickly the news can lose focus. All media sectors covered Jackson heavily, but it was cable news channels that led the way.  93% of cable coverage studied on the Thursday and Friday following his death was about the King of Pop. On the front pages of Friday morning newspapers, 37% of their coverage was Jackson-related compared to 55% of the leading online coverage. If anyone needed proof of how much the media culture has changed it might be this. When Elvis Presley died in 1977, CBS News was criticized for choosing not to lead its newscast with news of his death.

Meanwhile, a coup took place in Honduras, in which a president, who wanted to legalize drugs and gain a third term as president, was overthrown by the military.

What this says about Americans, I wont get in to. However, for those that actually care about how important boring old news means  to you, your rights, and the profit in your pocket, I work hard to find the best news possible from hundreds of  reliable sources that have websites.

There are two reason I made this site.

First, the average person is lucky to have the time for more then one news source, whether its a TV show, newspaper or website. Since every news source covers most of the same stories, many important stories never make it to the big screen because they are either to complicated to be entertaining, or they simply go against the consensus of the few major corporations that bring Americans the bulk of their news. This means someone needs to be watching everybody. Even though for me, covering everything is virtually impossible, it is safe to say I do better then the rest, and save you time from searching through the nonsensical celebrity driven news.

The second reason is that there are still many people, mostly older who think of internet news as nothing more then rumor. The truth is almost everything you watch on TV or read in a paper is also on the internet. Until Google creates its database of library books, almost everything you need is on the internet. Of course this doesn't mean there isn't disinformation on the net, but you have the ability through search to verify things on your own. Since I do not have the time, I wait for a stories to at least appear in two different reliable news sources. I may miss an update hear or there, but I collect the news each day, so you wont actually miss anything, even if I don't update the site everyday. This is helpful for those who can live by the demand of the 24 hours news cycle.

Twice a week I update, and I update daily on major events, such as the Iranian Election and its aftermath. On average I put in at least 20 hours a week. I chose not to set a donation so its up to you to tell me how much I am worth. Please donate what you can, whatever I make will go to the site either in advertising, or the design of the site.
