Obama's Pick to Lead Afghan War Linked to Abuse of
Prisoners & Secret Assassination Unit Lieutenant
General Stanley McChrystal formerly served as commander
of the Joint Special Operations Command from 2003 to
2008. During that time, he oversaw a secretive program
to hunt down and assassinate suspected terrorists around
the globe. Last year, lawmakers delayed Stanley
McChrystal’s nomination for a key position because of
questions about prisoner abuse by forces under his
command. Many of the reports of abuse center on Camp
Nama, a US base near Baghdad’s airport where Special
Operations troops ran an interrogation and detention
center.

What’s next on “bailout” law?
In what may have been an excess of exuberance, the White
House issued a statement about the Chrysler deal Tuesday
night. Attributed to an unnamed White House official, it
included this assertion: “We are gratified that not a single
court that reviewed this matter, including the U.S. Supreme
Court, found any fault whatsoever with the handling of this
matter by either Chrysler or the U.S. Government….” There
are some problems with that, and they are not mere legal
technicalities. Fundamental constitutional issues surround
the use of federal funds in the Chrysler bailout, as do a
host of questions about using the bankruptcy laws as they
were in this case. They were raised in the papers filed at
the Court this week, but they were not answered in any final
way. |

House Lawmakers Subpoena Fed for BoA-Merrill Lynch Documents
It’s just the latest in a string of controversies

Merrill’s decline at the end of 2008 — as well as $4 billion
in bonuses Merrill intended to pay its employees — lest the
news spook BofA shareholders and kill the acquisition deal.
That deal, originally billed as a private transaction,
eventually required $20 billion in federal funds to
complete.

Attack On Sotomayor's Political Ties Ignores Roberts' Link
To Bush A new line of attack against Judge Sonia Sotomayor holds
that the Supreme Court nominee lacks impartiality because

has publicly supported a sitting president. The
conservatives criticizing Sotomayor seem to have forgotten
Chief Justice John Roberts' close association with President
